An immigrant sport
Even though curling began in Scotland, it has become incredibly popular in North America. In the 1830's, Scottish immigrants moved the Great Lakes area of the continent. Michigan was an especially popular place for Scottish immigrants. The cold, snowy winters made a great place for curling to expand, and it mostly expanded north. Today, 90% of curlers come from Canada. Curling has also become more popular since it was introduced to the Olympics in 1998. Today, it is becoming easier to find a place to learn to curl.
